Event Profile • Talented Indian Bartenders now have the career-rewarding opportunity to participate in global mainstream competitions like the Annual Finlandia Cup after Vice President & Area Director, Asia Pacific for Brown-Forman Worldwide and Chairman, ISWAI (International Spirits and Wines Association), Mr. Amrit Kiran Singh last year initiated the Indian edition of the Finlandia Bartenders Competition, which is now in its 12th edition internationally. The winner of the 2nd Indian edition, Martin Strobos of News Café, Delhi will participate in the 12th Annual Finlandia Vodka Cup in Lapland, Finland in February 2010. Last year, Bharat Bhushan of Old World Hospitality had gone to Lapland Finland for the 11th Annual Finlandia Vodka Cup. A preparation and appraisal session one day before the Final was conducted by Mr. Sandeep Verma of IBOM (Institute of Bar Operations and Management).
• F&B Expert and Executive Director, Sarovar Hotels, Mr. Ajay Bakaya, Mr. Cal Oatway, Corporate Head -- F&B, The Lalit, and trend-setting models, Ms. Neha Kapoor and Ms. Sonalika Sahay adjudged a competitive Final round of the Indian Edition of The 2nd Finlandia Bartending Competition and diligently rated the 7 finalists on their confidence in introducing themselves, interactions with the jury members, finer points like holding the glass, cutting, garnishing, creative flair and even juggling and bar acrobatics, besides of course on the taste and presentation of their preparations. Each finalist made and presented three drinks with at least 4 components in addition to Finlandia Vodka and had 15 minutes to make his drinks and make an impression on the judges who took turns to taste each preparation. There were 35 participating bartenders from all over India who competed with each other a day prior to the Finals. After facing fierce competition, 7 participants made it to the Finals at the sprawling, neo-colonial DLF City Club.
• After much deliberation, the 4 judges declared the versatile, Mr. Martin Strobos from Delhi’s News Café as the Winner of the Finlandia Bartending Competition from India, who has now won a trip to Finland to compete with participants from more than 30 countries for the 12th Annual Finlandia Vodka Cup in February 2010. The 1st runner up at the Final was Mr. Nishant Gaurav of the Olive Beach, Delhi and 2nd runner up was Mr. Rakesh Sharma of Smoke House Grill, Delhi. Martin Strobos stated that he is most upbeat about his chances of winning the international edition with enough time in hand to practice and polish his art. Finlandia continues to bring together top bartenders of the world to the global event where they can experience the heritage and home of Finlandia Vodka. It also provides a forum where bartenders from across the world share their knowledge, and build friendships across borders. The event will give the opportunity to participants to try out the variety of Finnish outdoor activities including a tour through the snow on snow mobiles, sleigh rides driven by husky dogs, ice fishing, outdoor saunas and general fun with fellow barmen, while experiencing the unique Lappish hospitality, tranquility and calmness.
• The winner and 2 runners-up were given gleaming Trophies along-with certificates by Mr. Amrit Kiran Singh and model, Ms. Puneet Juneja. Besides, all participants were given participatory certificates and bottles of Finlandia.
• In India, the championship is conducted amongst leading clubs, restaurants and hotels in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Pune and Lucknow.
