Architecture, Building and Construction

(Reriani Communications)--- Norfolk, VA -- Kings Road Park, a heavily used garden oasis in a densely populated portion of West Hollywood has recently completed a new art installation created by Brickstone which links its historical background with its aspirations for the future as a diversified and forward thinking city. As you enter this 26,000 square foot pocket park and travel down the meandering paths, strolling by the beautiful 100-year old specimen trees and colorful plantings, you catch glimpses of the all white Walter Luther Dodge House Art Wall. Set in a concave wall the bas relief sculpture depicts the Dodge House and its gardens, built in 1916, by notable architect Irving J. Gill, which was situated just south of the park site, but unfortunately destroyed in 1970.

Brickstone has created two panels that reflect the smooth tilt-up concrete structure that was the trademark of Gill's architectural style. The fine quality of the sculpting accentuates the details of the house and plant materials, creating shadows that accentuate both the architectural and landscape features; the uniform white color allows visitors to focus on these details. Along with additional signage, these panels provide an opportunity to highlight the history of this section of West Hollywood and Kings Road by giving special recognition to this significant estate.

"We are very proud to have been selected for the Kings Road Park project. It is a lasting memorial to an architectural masterpiece which, unfortunately, is lost forever," David Becker, Brickstone's Marketing Director. "In many ways Brickstone is the only choice for this type of installation. Our cast material, GFRC, allows for minute detail while also being extremely durable. When you couple that with one of our talented sculptors, Christine K. Harris a piece of art that we are all proud of, will stand for years to come"

About Brickstone Studios:
Brickstone Studios has been creating beautiful precast stone fireplaces, hearths, murals, surrounds, architectural elements, kitchen hoods, countertops, and custom design work since 1989. Our cast stone pieces and GFRC-glass fiber reinforced cement has the look and feel of real limestone yet is very affordable. We also offer an array of architectural columns, corbels, keystones, balustrades, etc. to enhance any home or building. We have created many landmark murals and memorials across the United States. We also produce stone cast signage a well.

About the Dodge House:
The Dodge house was built by Irving Gill. It was untimely donated to the City of West Hollywood and slated to be turned into a park. The house was to be preserved as a tribute to Irving Gills architecture, but was razed by accident before it could be moved. The city was convinced to pay tribute to the house in the park. Prominent Landscape Architect Alexis Joan Slafer - ASLA was chosen by the city to create an art wall. She decided to create a Brickstone Wall mural because it demonstrated more of an interest to the structure and landscaping then could be achieved by a painting. She had witnessed a Brickstone demonstration at an ASLA convention. The City and its citizens love it. An official unveiling is coming up.
