Leading Edge Aviation Services Reports Record Year

(Reriani Communications)--- Leading Edge Aviation Services, Inc. (LEAS), the worldâs largest commercial aircraft painting company, announced it anticipates another record year of growth in 2010. This follows a year in which the company stripped and painted more than 500 aircraft, keeping its five facilities at full capacity. As the commercial aviation market begins to emerge from an economic downturn, Michael Manclark, LEASâ Chief Executive Officer, foresees continued growth for the company through 2010. âWe will exceed our initial projections this year,â he says.

The Santa Ana, Calif.-based firm can claim consecutive growth each year of its existence. âWe were especially proud to achieve record success on the year of our 20th anniversary,â says Manclark. The company celebrated its two decades of service in April 2009. Over the past 20 years, Leading Edge has evolved from being a small California aircraft detailer to an aviation giant, serving virtually every major airline and achieving revenues totaling more than $42 million a year. In addition to painting aircraft, LEAS provides a wide range of efficient, on-call services in support of their airline customers.

Over the previous five years, Leading Edgeâs highly trained workforce of over 500 employees has painted more than 2000 aircraft. Its customers include virtually every major carrier or regional airline in the U.S. and Canada, as well as a number of overseas carriers. Although LEAS takes in large fleet-wide jobs for commercial, regional and cargo carriers, it still finds time in its schedule to complete the âone offâ job. GMT Global Republic Aviation Announces Staff Additions in Light of Improving Market Conditions

"Our carrier customers are reporting improved traffic results in the past two calendar quarters and we are seeing overall macroeconomic conditions recover," said Paul Mason, chief executive officer of GMT Global. "We are also encouraged by what we are seeing in our own portfolio, including recent lease extensions and the fact that we have all of our aircraft currently on lease."

GMT Global owns and manages a portfolio of 23 Airbus-manufactured commercial aircraft on lease to operators such as South African Airways, Brussels Airlines, Royal Jordanian Airlines, TAM, Virgin Atlantic Airways and Safi Airways. "As a result of the improving commercial aviation climate, we have begun to strengthen our management and support teams to take advantage of heightened activity on the aircraft leasing and finance horizon," Mason added.

Mason said that Michael Coviello has joined GMT Global's Aurora office as managing director of technical services. Coviello brings more than three decades of experience in the leasing, trading, maintenance and operation of corporate and transport aircraft and airline operations. Prior to joining GMT Global, he served as director of marketing and technical management with Mountain Capital Partners and has held various leadership roles for companies such as AirCapital Aviation Services, Back Aviation, GMT Global and Tombo Aviation. Coviello, who served as director of programs and managed two part-out programs in a previous stint at GMT Global, held an FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate for more than 30 years. He earned an AAS in Aircraft Maintenance Technology from the College of Aeronautics. He is a member of the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading (ISTAT).

Skyscanner Flight Trends for April 2010: Top 50 Flight Destinations

(Reriani Communications)--- Despite delays and cancellations caused by the ash cloud, many European cities held their positions at the top of Aprilâs âTop 50 Flight Destinationsâ. Surprisingly, Athens - having recently suffered the negative effects caused by both the ash cloud and civil unrest - actually moved up nine places this month.

Ones to watch:
Tel Aviv and Seoul showed the biggest jump in rank position (+17, and +12, respectively) while Germany has also taken a stronghold in the chart this month, with four of its major cities moving quite highly into prominent positions. They also see many, Eastern European cities making their debut in the Top 50 and subsequently displacing a few of the more âtraditionalâ favorites possibly indicating a growing trend for North Americans to look for a âroad less traveledâ.

The rise of Germany
Frankfurt entered the top ten this month while Berlin and Dusseldorf increased by six and seven places respectively. Munich showed the biggest increase of the Germany cities in the top 50, rising an impressive 12 places to number 25. The fall of Canada. While flights to Europe performed well in April, it appears that American travelers are showing less interest in travel to Canadian destinations. Toronto dropped ten places to position 37 and Vancouver, which enjoyed a rise in popularity during the winter Olympics, almost fell out of the ranking, clinging onto the 50th spot.

Icelandic Volcano probing air-routes again

(Reriani Communications)--- ACCORDING TO the latest reports, Iceland's volcano has produced a 1,000-mile-wide (1,600 kilometer-wide) ash cloud off the west coast of Ireland which has forced western Irish airports to shut down on Friday, the Irish Aviation Authority announced.

The Irish Aviation Authority said trans-Atlantic aircraft using Irish air space were already giving the ash cloud a wide berth by shifting their flight paths south. The authority said shifting winds, currently coming from the north, had bundled recent days' erupted ash into a massive cloud that is growing both in width and height by the hour.

"The restrictions are required as the increased level of recent volcanic activity has created a massive ash cloud stretching 1,000 miles long and 700 miles wide," the authority said in a statement.The Irish Aviation Authority said the engine-wrecking ash would skirt Ireland's western shores Friday, forcing a half-dozen airports to ground flights for much of the day. However, the airports in Dublin, Cork in the southwest and Waterford in the southeast will remain open.

New Iceland volcanic ash eruption affects air traffic again

"Fat" Passenger Kicked Off Plane

Kevin Smith, an actor/director, describes himself as "way fat" but says that his weight should not prevent him from traveling. Smith says that a Southwest Airline pilot forced him off a flight from Oakland to Burbank, CA, claiming that Smith did not fit properly in a single seat.

Smith complained about his treatment by Southwest on his Twitter page on Sunday, saying "If you look like me you may be ejected from Southwest Air."

According to Southwest's "Customer of Size" policy passengers must be able to fit safely and comfortably in one seat or make other arrangements.
