General Interest : Job Search Expert Warns Summer is Worst Time to Look For Work
|
| on 2010/8/13 15:00:00 (108 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- With the summer time being a slow time of year to find work, advice to jobseekers from a top career planning expert is to keep up momentum by understanding the system and working it as much as possible to their advantage. “This is an especially tough time of year for unemployed people,” says Tor Macleod, co-founder of careerplan4.me. “Many organisations are operating with reduced staff levels as people go away for holiday. This means CVs and online applications pile higher over several weeks, rather than being a priority to fill skills gaps.
“Instead of fighting the system, understand and work it. Firing out applications may seem productive, but can offer poor results for the mountain of effort – and will add to anxiety levels if there is little feedback.” Those just made redundant often think it’s a great time of year to be unemployed. Thoughts of warm, sunny days can be anything but pleasant if the weather is poor and cash is tight. Indeed, if a jobseeker has children, with limited or no money to go away or take them out, home can become a frustrating place for everyone.

General Interest : Ninety Percent of Physicians Are Affiliated with at Least One Hospital, According to New SK&A Survey
|
| on 2010/7/25 6:00:00 (122 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- For marketing, sales and research professionals who need to understand the complex relationship of physician-to-hospital affiliations, SK&A, A Cegedim Company, today announced the release of an enhancement to its Office-Based Physician database that links practicing physicians to hospitals. SK&A has identified 1,143,420 hospital affiliations for the 680,000 physicians in its industry-leading database. Ninety percent of doctors are affiliated with at least one hospital. The average physician is affiliated with 1.7 hospitals.
SK&A enhanced its database of affiliations by surveying more than 235,000 U.S. medical offices over a six-month period to determine the unique connection between physicians and the hospitals within their sphere of practice or specialty. The survey was conducted by SK&A’s Research Center in Irvine, Calif., as part of its daily telephone verification of medical site information. “Understanding the distinct and multifaceted relationship between physicians and hospitals is absolutely essential to succeed in today’s competitive marketplace,” said Dave Escalante, SK&A’s Vice President of Data and Information Solutions. “SK&A clients, across 12 major U.S. industries, need this important affiliation information to better plan and execute their sales, marketing and market-research programs. High-quality affiliation data enables more effective selling to physicians, supports enhanced targeting and segmentation, and provides more insight into the complex relationships that influence and drive market behaviors,” continued Escalante.

General Interest : Lifeguards Needed in California Schools
|
| on 2010/7/16 9:30:00 (107 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- While most parents know about the dangers of drowning in open waters, like the ocean or a lake or pond, or even in a neighbor's pool, many are unlikely to have considered the possibility of their children drowning while at school. However, for some parents, this possibility has become a reality. This includes the family of John E., who drowned during a P.E. class his junior year at a Central Coast High School. A fellow student saw the 17-year-old at the bottom of the pool and alerted the class's instructor. However, by the time John was brought to the surface, it already was too late.
Dangerous Loophole in California Law
Drownings during physical education courses would be less likely to occur if public schools were required to provide lifeguards during P.E. courses. However, a loophole in California law does not require lifeguards at public schools. According to the state Health and Safety Code, lifeguards are not legally required unless the pool charges a fee for admission. Since public schools do not charge students a fee to use the pool, they do not have to provide lifeguards for their protection during swimming classes -- even in cases when students are required to take these classes. Since state law does not mandate that lifeguards be on-duty during aquatic P.E. classes, it is left up to each school district to decide whether or not to provide a lifeguard. Many schools, however, regretfully decide to forgo a lifeguard. Instead, they only have a P.E. instructor. With some classes having 30 or more students, it becomes impossible for a P.E. instructor, who may not even have adequate water safety training, to simultaneously watch all of the children and instruct them. Given that it takes less than 90 seconds for a child submerged underwater to lose consciousness, a P.E. instructor busy watching over an entire class of sometimes rowdy high school students may not even notice a child has gone missing until it is too late. For more than 20 years, advocates and parents alike have been trying to change California law to make lifeguards mandatory during public school P.E. courses. However, so far their efforts have been unsuccessful.

General Interest : Refugee from Sudan Wins Swim Meets At Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC)
|
| on 2010/6/25 8:40:00 (100 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- Until he was 12, Haftom Ambaye had never even seen a swimming pool. Born in 1986 in a refugee camp in Sudan—where his family had relocated while civil war ravaged their home province of Humera, Ethiopia—he eventually moved to New York to live with the biological father he had never known. Flying unaccompanied, the 10-year-old landed in New York in August 1997, and started sixth grade at IS90 in Washington Heights the next day. “I spoke virtually no English and didn’t understand any of my classes for the first eight months,” he says. “Even so, it was fun.”
Ambaye’s English rapidly improved, and his burgeoning interest in dance led to a scholarship at the Alvin Ailey American Dance School summer camp. Meanwhile, another pursuit was capturing his imagination. “My older brother, who had emigrated to the U.S. in 1993, was swimming regularly at the YMCA on 135th Street,” says Ambaye, who quickly learned to swim there, and earned a spot on Riverbank State Park’s C-level team, working his way up to the A team. “In one swim meet, I did the 200-meter backstroke in 1:58,” he says. “To this day I haven’t bested that time.”

(Reriani Communications) --- Transfer America announces that it will hold complimentary "Get Rid of My Timeshare" seminars for timeshare owners who want to get rid of their timeshare(s) and the fees that come with. The seminars are being held in various cities across Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Tennessee from Friday, June 11 through Monday, June 14, 2010.
Some timeshare owners love what they get out of owning a timeshare. However, many timeshare owners have felt the uncomfortable burden of the many fees associated with timeshares. As for those belonging to the second group of timeshare owners mentioned, they are facing uncertain times as timeshare resales are in serious oversupply while the amount of buyers is at an all-time low. Other solutions for getting rid of timeshares such as donating, trying to rent out or even just not paying the timeshare fees have major problems.
