Health, Fitness and Drugs : Dr. Calvert: American Board of Plastic Surgery Certified Cosmetic Surgeon Los Angeles
|
| on 2010/8/30 13:00:00 (34 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- Dr. Jay Calvert, MD FACS is a cosmetic surgeon Los Angeles who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. The American Board of Plastic Surgery is a prestigious board: one of only 24 recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. ABPS is the only board that certifies surgeons in specialties for the entire body, rather than just a certain area like the nose or eyes, breasts or tummy.
What does ABPS certification imply? Certification by the ABPS implies that the doctor has satisfactorily completed courses and exams beyond normal medical licensure which has been set forth by the board. All plastic surgeons applying for certification must pass the test with an exemplary fund of knowledge to win certification. In order to be a specialist it is required to maintain certification. In order to keep certification doctors must participate in continuing education. The American Board of Plastic Surgeons assesses Dr. Calvert's "performance in practice", and those of other specialists like him, to be sure he is meets or exceeds their high standards. He must also take further examinations to test his knowledge in his specialty to maintain certification.

Health, Fitness and Drugs : Enforcement Change Leads to Surge in Drug Recalls
|
| on 2010/8/28 14:00:00 (51 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- Drug recalls soared by 300 percent to a record number of 1742 in 2009. One drug company--now defunct--accounted for over 1000 of those recalls, but the increase is still 50% over 2008. Although the marked increase has led some to speculate about a decline in product safety, according to pharmaceutical injury lawyers at The Cochran Firm, the difference is more likely an attitude shift toward increased enforcement than a sudden change in product safety.
Industry analysts cite a number of factors that led to the increase, including: - Drug repackaging - Rush to produce generic alternatives - Manufacturing lapses - Increased FDA scrutiny

Health, Fitness and Drugs : Back Disk Injuries
|
| on 2010/8/27 8:00:00 (36 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- When you hear about herniated disks and serious back injuries in the media, it is most often in conjunction with the latest NFL player on the disability list. The beginning of this football season has already brought progress reports of recovery for Rams' running back Steven Jackson and Giants offensive lineman Shawn Andrews - both returning from back-related injuries. But you don't have to be a professional football player to suffer a spinal disk injury.
Spinal disk injuries can happen to anyone in the blink of an eye - all it takes is the improper lifting of a heavy box at home or work or an unexpected car accident. The pain of a spinal disk injury can stop a person in their tracks. Every movement can be excruciating, carrying with it the risk of further injury and permanent damage.

|
| on 2010/8/25 22:30:00 (47 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- Dr. Jack Gunter and Dr. C. Spencer Cochran, cosmetic plastic surgeons in Dallas, recently attended an Innovation Summit in New York, NY produced by Ethicon, Inc. and Mentor Worldwide LLC to discuss the PDS Flexible plate, its recent approval by the FDA, and the uses of the plate in rhinoplasty procedures. Dr. Jack Gunter was one of two clinical surgeons invited to give a presentation on the potential uses for the PSD plates in septorhinoplasty. As consultants and part of an advisory board for Ethicon, Inc. and Mentor Worldwide, the doctors have worked closely with the companies’ Research and Development teams over the past two years to refine the synthetic bio-absorbable material that serves as a scaffold for cartilage reconstruction in rhinoplasty procedures.
With recent approval from the U. S. Food and Drug Administration, the PDS Flexible Plate will improve a number of procedures Dr. Gunter and Dr. Cochran offer, including nasal rhinoplasty in Dallas. The new product will potentially decrease the surgeons’ needs for obtaining additional cartilage from other locations on the body, such as the ear or rib.

Health, Fitness and Drugs : Dr. Frank C. Garland, 1950-2010, Partner in Discovery of Vitamin D and Cancer Link
|
| on 2010/8/25 18:00:00 (46 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- Dr. Frank Garland, Professor of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of California San Diego and Technical Director of the Naval Health Research Center passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 17 at UCSD Thornton Hospital after contending with a nearly year-long illness with high optimism and courage. Dr. Garland was born on June 20, 1950 in San Diego. He received a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins University and began had a distinguished career in vitamin D research for cancer and disease prevention which spanned over three decades and resulted in numerous scientific articles and book chapters.
His interest in vitamin D began with a seminar where cancer mortality rate maps from the National Cancer Institute for the 3,056 US counties were being shown at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Frank Garland and his brother Cedric were startled to see that maps of breast and colon cancer mortality rates were twice as high in many counties of the northern tier of states than in the southwest. They immediately and simultaneously realized the importance of this geographic difference, and jointly formulated a theory that vitamin D and calcium were preventing adenocarcinoma of the colon and breast in the sunnier parts of the US. Their theory was different from the conventional belief that sunlight was mainly a dangerous cause of skin cancer and a peril to be completely avoided. They marshaled evidence and proposed that vitamin D and calcium are capable of preventing cancer and published the first of their many papers on this topic in the International Journal of Epidemiology in 1980.

Health, Fitness and Drugs : The Big News in Breast Implants is Small
|
| on 2010/8/22 14:00:00 (34 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- North Carolina Breast Augmentation surgeon Michael Law is seeing an increased demand for smaller breast implants. Breast implants for cosmetic augmentation first became available in the 1960's and rapidly gained popularity in the 1970's. By the 1980's breast augmentation was the second most popular plastic surgery (after liposuction), and the motto seemed to be "the bigger the better". The oversized implants seen everywhere in the popular media in the 80's and 90's clearly served to alter the public's perception of what breasts are supposed to look like: large, taut and high. The kind of breasts that formerly appeared only in cartoons.
Today, breast augmentation in North Carolina and all parts of the country is more popular than ever. But reason is beginning to prevail again, and patients and the public are 'rediscovering' the fact that the aesthetic ideal for the female breast is soft, supple, fuller in the lower than the upper pole, and in proportion to the rest of a woman's figure.

Health, Fitness and Drugs : Highly Sought After Wellness Expert & Internationally Recognized Fitness Celebrity Jennifer Nicole Lee Develops "The JNL Fit Home Line"
|
| on 2010/8/22 12:00:00 (36 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- The JNL brand is synonymous with luxury, rejuvenation, balance, fitness, health, and now a good night's rest. Jennifer Nicole Lee (JNL) is an internationally recognized fitness celebrity and wellness expert.
JNL states" I noticed that when someone started a healthier program, they would fall off the wagon about two weeks into it. I found out that they were not getting the proper rest at night, and thus getting sick or even more worn out from their exercise program. So my team and I took a long good look at their sleep patterns. And most of them did not have the right bedding, the best most comfy mattress covers, or proper down comforter fills for their body weight. To go even further, those who did enjoy long, deep, sound sleeps had more energy throughout the day, were more balanced, and felt healthier."
