Automotive : The Dangers of 15-Passenger Vans
|
| on 2010/9/5 15:00:00 (60 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), there were 1,512 fatal accidents involving 15-passenger vans between 1994 and 2004. In 2004 alone, 120 occupants of 15-passenger vans died in crashes involving these vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) cautions that 15-passenger vans are not like smaller passenger vans; they have a higher rate of rollover under certain conditions and necessitate greater attention to tire maintenance and road conditions.
These vehicles pose such a concern that NHTSA published an action plan for 15-passenger van safety in 2003. The agency has completed the majority of planned projects; however, rulemaking to improve roof crush resistance and mitigate occupant ejections remain on the action list. Moreover, conventional 12- to 15-passenger vans are not certified to meet NHTSA standards and therefore cannot be sold or leased as new vehicles to transport students on a regular basis.

Since their establishment the company has sold enough sealant to have fixed over a million vehicles nationwide. The shining star of the line and the first to hit major auto parts nationwide is the famous, Blue Devil Head Gasket Sealant. Due to Ole Blue’s fame, the company has been simultaneously tied to this characters reputation hence overshadowing the generic Universal Products brand.
Now in 2010, all three product lines: Blue Devil, Red Angel and White Shepherd are stepping into the limelight across the USA’s top Auto Supplier’s stage. To award this successful branding of their sealant line, Universal Products, Inc. decided it was time for a company name change. The company saw the need to familiarize their customers with a company name that showcased their product lines as sealants and unify the success of the three.

Automotive : NTSB Holds Hearings to Address Truck Rollover Accidents
|
| on 2010/8/28 8:00:00 (64 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- Any time a tractor-trailer is involved in a crash, the potential for serious injuries is high. These vehicles travel at high speeds while carrying heavy loads, which may include hazardous materials. When these vehicles collide with smaller passenger vehicles, the consequences are often catastrophic.
When these trucks rollover, the potential for serious harms only increases. And while rollovers account for a small percentage of accidents involving tractor-trailers, these accidents disproportionately result in fatalities.

(Reriani Communications) --- CTEK, a leading global brand in the care and maintenance of vehicle batteries has highlighted the most common tell tale signs of battery failure in motor vehicles.
Battery Protection is of the utmost importance but motorists can pre-empt battery failure by looking out for a number of signs, all of which indicate that there may be an issue with a vehicle battery. One way of immediately detecting that there may be a problem with a battery is that the starter motor turns slowly, barely starting the vehicle, which is usually an indication that there may be wiring problems preventing the battery from fully charging. Furthermore, the car may not start at all.

Automotive : "Stop on Red Week" Reminds Drivers to Obey Traffic Signals
|
| on 2010/8/21 8:00:00 (64 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- The Federal Highway Administration recently sponsored their ninth annual "National Stop on Red Week," aimed at increasing awareness of the hazards associated with running red lights. Though most motorists assume that speeding or driving while intoxicated causes the majority of accidents around the country, that is not the case with accidents in urban or metropolitan areas - in those locations, red light running is the leading cause. Sadly, half of the deaths associated with a driver's failure to stop at a red light are of innocent bystanders like pedestrians and occupants in the vehicles struck by the "runner".
Why Is This So Dangerous? The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has compiled some frightening statistics about how dangerous it can be to run red lights: - In 2008 (the most recent year for which such data has been compiled), nearly 140,000 injuries and 1,000 deaths resulted from red light running-related crashes - 40 percent of pedestrian deaths caused by passenger vehicles occurred in intersections - the number spikes to 51 percent if commercial trucks are included - Every 20 minutes a red light is run at each intersection

Automotive : Oh No, the Car's "Check Engine" Light is On. Shade Tree Garage Tells Why It Comes on and What to Do.
|
| on 2010/8/8 10:30:00 (94 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- You’re driving along in your car or truck and suddenly a yellow “Check Engine” or “Service Engine Soon” light illuminates on the dashboard. Most car owners have little idea what this light is telling them and often don’t know what they should do. Shade Tree Garage is a local independent automotive repair shop and is considered a trusted resource when it comes to issues with cars. To help car owners, their Service Advisor, Dan O'Connor provides valuable information on why this light comes on and what you should do about it.
What does the light mean? “While the ‘Check Engine’ or ‘Service Engine Soon’ light doesn’t mean you have an immediate problem, it does indicate a situation that needs to be checked as soon as possible,” states Dan O’Connor, Service Advisor at Shade Tree Garage. Here’s a simple rule of thumb. Think of your car’s dashboard lights like “stop” lights. If the light is “red,” you should pull over to the side of the road immediately and call a tow truck. If “yellow,” you should take precautions and schedule service for your vehicle as soon as possible.

Automotive : PPT VISION Delivers a Significantly Lower Cost Alternative to High Precision Measurement Systems for Large Wheel Inspection
|
| on 2010/8/3 7:30:00 (101 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- PPT VISION utilizes two IMPACT T20 Intelligent Cameras to inspect aluminum wheels traveling on a roller conveyor, verifying model type and specifications. The vision system is required to ensure the correct model of aluminum wheel is packed into the appropriate container before shipment. The wheel patterns are very similar from one model to the other, and the only way to differentiate them is to measure hole pattern dimensions. In order to be able to differentiate the models reliably and provide accurate measurement, the vision system needs to provide a 4-micron pixel resolution, while covering an inspection area that is 200mm wide.
The two IMPACT cameras are mounted on a multi-axis motion controlled fixture located below the roller conveyor. As the wheel enters the camera FOV, the first IMPACT camera takes a picture and calculates the coordinates of the bolt holes. These coordinates are sent to the motion control PC so it can move the second IMPACT camera and position it to view each of the bolt holes individually. This second IMPACT camera has a FOV of 30 mm by 20mm. The camera measures the center of the hole, then moves to the next hole and measures the next center point. This process is repeated until all holes are measured. The center points are then fed into the Fitted Circle composite tools, where a best fit circle is generated. The diameter of the fitted circle is used to determine the wheel model.
