Military and Marine : Never Be Left in the Dark with Night Vision Goggles and Scopes
on 2010/6/12 19:40:00 (79 reads)
Military and Marine

(Reriani Communications) --- When night vision goggles and scopes were invented they were strictly used in military applications. German engineers had primitive models functioning by the end of WWII, and many German tanks employed them in battle against Allied forces. Early U.S. design technology of the NVD’s (night vision devices) was classified, but inventors in the private sector soon caught up and commercial applications came to the market. Law enforcement agencies used night vision goggles and scopes for monitoring purposes, and private investigators soon picked up on the innovative equipment. Today’s night vision goggles and night vision scopes are considered to be Generation 3 and Generation 4 models using highly advanced technologies. Military and law enforcement continue to be major users of this equipment, but like with other technologies developed by the military, night vision goggles and night vision scopes are making their way into mainstream use with increasing regularity. Who’s using them?

Private investigators rely on night vision goggles for their surveillance needs. Much of the activity they track happens after dark, and night vision goggles give them the opportunity to follow subjects at night and from a distance. Night vision goggles are expensive, but that cost is often passed along to their clients who are eager to obtain certain kinds of information.

Military and Marine : World Progress Report with Joan Lunden Focuses On Struggling Military Spouses
on 2010/5/4 16:20:00 (90 reads)
Military and Marine

(Reriani Communications)--- Buses. Families. Packed bags. Tears. No deployment is easy on our service members. Yet in today’s military, they are increasingly common. Though the separation can be difficult for those deploying, sometimes it’s even harder for those left behind.

Recent studies confirm that deployed military personnel aren’t the only ones suffering from mental health disorders. Due to long term deployments, military wives are proving to be just as susceptible. In fact, in a recent study where over 250,000 Army wives were examined, researchers discovered that one third of all women studied were diagnosed with at least one mental health disorder; depression and sleep disorders ranked among the most common. Some women also suffered from a range of anxiety, stress and adjustment disorders. "There's a very clear relationship between deployment and these mental health diagnoses in these women," said Alyssa Mansfield, an epidemiologist with the research organization RTI International and the study's lead author. "We find that these women are experiencing greater mental health problems and there's a need for services for them (USA Today).”

Though the battle on the home front is very real for today’s military spouses, help doesn’t seem to be as readily available for them. There are very few organizations dedicated to specifically helping the wives through their mental struggles. However, through their Public Television series, the World Progress Report hopes to highlight efforts dedicated to helping spouses through these difficult times. “We hope that more organizations will continue to step up and help ease the anxiety and frustrations military wives experience. We understand that it’s not just our service men that need support, their spouses do as well,” said the Executive Producer of the series. Through these efforts, the World Progress Report hopes that lives continue to heal and that awareness of this growing problem is brought to light.

Military and Marine : Remaining wreck of South Korean warship lifted from seabed
on 2010/4/24 9:00:00 (98 reads)
Military and Marine

(Reriani Communications)--- SEOUL: Salvage teams lifted the remaining half of a broken South Korean warship from the seabed on Friday, another crucial step in the investigation to determine the cause of the deadly disaster.

The move came a day after Yonhap news agency quoted a senior military source as saying that the South's military intelligence suspect that North Korean submarines attacked the ship with a heavy torpedo. Seoul has so far refrained from directy accusing North Korea over the March 26 sinking on their disputed Yellow Sea border, which investigators say was most likely caused by an external explosion.

The bow of the 1,200-tonne Cheonan was hauled to the surface by a giant floating crane on Friday after the stern section was salvaged last week, and detailed inspections of the wreck are expected on Saturday. South Korean Defence Minister Kim Tae-Young has raised the possibility that a mine or torpedo may have sunk the corvette, but his ministry says it will keep all windows of possibility open until the investigation is completed. However, Yonhap on Thursday quoted the unidentified military source as saying: "It's our military intelligence's assessment that North Korean sumbmarines attacked the ship with a heavy torpedo."
