Retirement and Senior Citizens : InternationalLiving.com Releases 2010 Index of World’s 25 Best Retirement Destinations
|
| on 2010/8/31 23:00:00 (42 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- For Kent and Christina Zimmerman, leaving Colorado for Cuenca, Ecuador felt like making a huge jump without a net. But after a year in the country that tops InternationalLiving.com’s 2010 Retirement Index, they’re loving their new lives in Ecuador.
They pay just $300 monthly rent for a rooftop apartment with panoramic views across Cuenca, a colonial center steeped in rich history that earned it a spot as a UNESCO World Heritage city. In fact, say the Zimmermans, they are exactly 55 steps from the city’s colonial heart, the picturesque and lively Parque Calderon, putting them at the hub of every festival that this renowned “City of Festivals” celebrates. “The pleasure of being in this vibrant city keeps us feeling energized, fit, and young,” says Kent. “Our place has a wonderful penthouse deck looking straight across the street at the sparkling blue-tiled domes of the huge cathedral that anchors the park. The deck has become our outdoor dining room, because the temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit all year.”

Retirement and Senior Citizens : Author Combines Mama Moves In in Traditional Print with Online ResearchPro Databases to Deliver Always-Current Elder Care Package
|
| on 2010/8/10 19:00:00 (68 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- Tom Dyke, author of Mama Moves In and builder of the ResearchPro databases, has set a New Standard for delivering elder care information to millions of Baby Boomers and others faced with providing in-my-home elder care. Traditional methods of delivery are subject to “information aging”. The minute books and static databases are published they start aging—going out-of-date. Dyke has cleverly avoided the published data “information aging” problem by putting the ResearchPro databases online and using both managed updates and Internet updates to avoid the “information aging” problem.
Mama Moves In, published by Dyke Publishing, is routinely updated by staff and by automatic Internet searches to assure that data is always current. Dyke Applies a similar method to two databases—Information ResearchPro for elder care information and Product ResearchPro for elder care products.

(Reriani Communications) --- Parc Communities, a leader in Atlanta retirement communities with four metro-Atlanta independent living communities, announces the hiring of premier Executive Chef Johnathan Metellus. Retirement and Senior Citizens : Older Workers Pummeled by Recession Are Finding Hope In The Senior Care Industry
|
| on 2010/6/4 13:00:00 (66 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- During much of his young career, Joe Sanders had reaped the rewards of a savvy business head, strong work ethic and good fortune. Stints as a stock broker, a Proctor & Gamble salesman and furniture entrepreneur led to his most successful business venture when he was already approaching age 60. In 1997, he opened the Albuquerque branch of the network of locally owned Home Instead Senior Care® franchises, an organization whose CAREGivers(SM) provide non-medical in-home care to seniors. He launched the Santa Fe, New Mexico, franchise office several years later. Like most experienced franchise owners, early retirement was never in his plans, but eventually Joe did decide to head south.
When he sold his Home Instead Senior Care franchises and retired to Palm Springs, California, six years ago, Sanders held the prestigious title of owner emeritus, a designation based on production and quality service, and reserved only for the network’s all-time leading franchise owners.

Retirement and Senior Citizens : 'Senior prom' unites youth with elderly in Louisiana
|
| on 2010/4/23 12:30:00 (101 reads) |
(Reriani Communications)--- A 'senior prom' in a small Southern town shows the benefits of both giving and receiving, that can come from altruistic acts. A well-known saying tells us it's better to give than receive. But science and observation says both giving and receiving have benefits, as watching young people interact with nursing home patients demonstrated on Wednesday night.
Students from a sorority and fraternity at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana decided on a project to bring social stimulation to nursing home patients and in collaboration with the activities staff had a "senior prom" at the facility. The occasion brought 20 to 30 young men and women to interact with seniors and bring the type of activity said to promote good health.
These young people in Natchitoches gave to patients at a nursing home what science says is critical for emotional and physical health of the elderly and those with disabilities and received many of those same benefits themselves.

Retirement and Senior Citizens : Home Care Businesses Fill Void As Alzheimer’s Care Units Decline
|
| on 2010/4/15 8:00:00 (76 reads) |
(Reriani Communications)--- Recent industry statistics released by the Alzheimer’s Association foretell a sobering future for U.S. seniors, many of whom are destined for a life dealing with the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease. What’s more, these same older adults and their families could soon be facing shortages of resources to help their seniors stay at home.
One in eight people aged 65 and older (13 percent) have Alzheimer’s disease, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. According to the recently released Alzheimer’s Association’s 2010 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report, 5.1 million people in the U.S. aged 65 and older have Alzheimer’s disease. That number is expected to reach 7.7 million by 2030, more than a 50 percent increase.
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive and, at present, irreversible brain disorder that is characterized by a steady decline in cognitive, behavioral and physical abilities severe enough to interfere with everyday life and necessitate full-time care, according to industry experts.

Retirement and Senior Citizens : NewRetirement.com Launches New Reverse Mortgage Calculator for Seniors
|
| on 2010/4/13 7:00:00 (100 reads) |
(Reriani Communications)--- NewRetirement.com, a retirement information and advocacy company, has released a new reverse mortgage calculator for seniors and their relatives. The new calculator is available both direct to consumers on the NewRetirement.com website and for use on other websites in the form of a widget.
The calculator first screens user input to confirm eligibility for reverse mortgages. Then, after determining eligibility for those that qualify, the calculator shows a market based estimate of the size reverse mortgage loan the user can expect to receive from a reverse mortgage lender. The reverse mortgage calculator uses homeowners’ ages, value of their homes, and the balance on any mortgages or liens to calculate the estimated loan amount.
Unlike most online reverse mortgage calculators, the NewRetirement calculator uses an average of interest rate margins and program fees from across the industry, giving the homeowner a baseline estimate. This baseline can be used to compare with individual reverse mortgage offerings from various lenders in their area.

Retirement and Senior Citizens : Recently released market study: The Future of Senior Nutrition
|
| on 2010/1/31 12:40:00 (103 reads) |
(Reriani Communications)--- Seniors have emerged as a powerful consumer audience in search of better health and a reduction in disease. Seniors are not only concerned about their health but are also willing to modify their diets to improve there health. Their needs are unmet by current functional food offerings, presenting a tremendous opportunity for food and beverage marketers.
The market for senior products continues to grow with the tremendous increase in this population worldwide and the projected increased incidence of age-related diseases. However, some previous attempts at targeting products to this demographic group have failed due to a lack of understanding of the Senior group. It is crucial that marketers understand the attitudes, values and behaviors of Seniors and products are backed by proven efficacy, trusted regulation and effective communication strategies.

Retirement and Senior Citizens : New York Nursing Home Faces Punitive Damages for Elder Abuse - Attorney Paul Dansker Addresses Nursing Home Patients’ Rights
|
| on 2010/1/20 15:00:00 (163 reads) |
(Reriani Communications)--- The New York Post recently reported that in December 2009, a Brooklyn nursing home was found guilty of negligence in the case of a patient who developed numerous bedsores while under the home’s care. The jury awarded the patient’s family close to $4 million for pain and suffering, plus an additional $15 million as punishment for trying to cover up the poor patient care. This case is the first to charge a nursing home with punitive damages.
Sadly, this example of nursing home neglect is not the only one. Elder abuse is prevalent in nursing homes around the country, and with serious consequences for patients. Older adults who are victims of elder abuse are more than twice as likely to die prematurely as are adults who are treated properly, according to a study published in the August 5, 2009 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Retirement and Senior Citizens : Older Job Seeker? Heed This Advice: Landing a Job Today is About Ability Not Seniority, Says Expert
|
| on 2009/9/2 10:10:00 (316 reads) |
(Reriani Communications)--- Huntington Beach, CA -- Too many older job seekers think seniority is the key to landing a job. You're wrong, says Rene Ward, founder of Seniors4Hire.org and you should invest in services that help you showcase your vast knowledge, good judgment, wisdom, abilities and skills to prove your superior candidacy.
Seniority, that is, length of service and experience no longer matters in most companies and is even less of a factor in consideration for open positions. However, older job seekers still think seniority should give them precedence over others. This is an outdated mindset that should be abandoned. Studies have shown that differences in job performance between someone with 20 years experience and someone with just five years are often negligible.
This is a harsh reality and some will probably want to shoot the messenger. But older job seekers should know that companies seek people that can contribute to their bottom line. Older job seekers need to invest in services like resume writing, self presentation techniques, and interview coaching that push their present qualifications to the forefront to land a job, says Ward.
