Science Technology and Innovation : Global Neurostimulation Market to Reach $8.8 Billion by 2015, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.
on 2010/9/6 14:00:00 (37 reads)
Science Technology and Innovation

(Reriani Communications) --- Neurostimulation is a promising medical technology that involves transmitting small mild electrical pulses with preset amplitude, frequency, and pulse width to the spinal cord or a peripheral nerve that restrains pain. Neurostimulation market continues to remain under-penetrated, despite the emergence of neurostimulators as effective alternatives to drug therapy in numerous psychiatric and neurological disorders. The relatively slower pace of commercialization is largely attributed to the limited awareness among patients and physicians. Rising consumer awareness, entry of new players into the market, and demographic trends are expected to drive the use of neurostimulation devices in the future. New and technologically advanced neurostimulator product introductions serving varied indications represent another key factor propelling the growth of neurostimulation market. Majority of the neurostimulation technologies are in various stages of clinical evaluation, with commercialization expected to involve a period of two to three years in markets with high potential like the US and Europe.

The United States represents the single largest market for neurostimulation with more than 75% share of global sales, as stated by the new market research report on neurostimulation. Rising demand for faster, effective, low-cost, and safer treatment methods, as against drug-based or surgery-based therapies is driving growth in the neurostimulation devices market. Growth is also anticipated owing to factors such as an aging population, and increase in age-related neurological disorders. The increasing availability of clinical data validating the technology’s efficacy, and growing acceptance among patient and physician community is also fuelling market growth. Deep Brain Stimulators (DBS) are primarily used for controlling movement disorders, such as dystonia, essential tremors, and Parkinson's disease. As the brain is associated with a wide range of disorders, DBS presents potential opportunities for the treatment of movement indications (short-term prospects), and cognitive indicatives (long-term prospects). The US market for deep brain stimulators (DBS) is anticipated to reach US$1.2 billion by 2013.

on 2010/8/31 6:00:00 (40 reads)
Science Technology and Innovation

(Reriani Communications) --- ANOVA Science Education Corporation’s (ANOVA Science; anovascience.com) Research Investigation Process (RIP ®) is captivating student interest in tackling engineering and science-related global problems by providing opportunities for exploration of real global issues in school, such as oil spills. This real-to-life experience is assisting these students and their teachers in achieving at young ages two of the goals of science education espoused by the National Science Education Standards: “Experience the richness and excitement of knowing about and understanding the natural world” and “Engage intelligently in public discourse and debate about matters of scientific and technological concern.”

Examples of this use of scientific inquiry-based instruction are teacher Melissa Miller’s 7th grade classes at Kirtland Middle School of the Central Consolidated School District in New Mexico and teacher Lori LoRusso’s Kahala Elementary School kindergarten classes in Honolulu, Hawaii. These students learn concepts connected to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields as they examine the consequences of classroom oil spill models that they have created and explore, test, and evaluate possible solutions for cleaning them up.

Science Technology and Innovation : The Porcine microRNAome is Revealed
on 2010/8/20 10:00:00 (68 reads)
Science Technology and Innovation

(Reriani Communications) --- Researchers from LC Sciences LLC and a collaboration of Universities(1) have established a porcine microRNAome, a complete catalog of all microRNAs expressed in the species Sus scrofa(2). MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small regulatory RNA molecules known to control a wide array of cellular functions such as growth and development and whose dysregulation has been associated with disease. The findings of this study lay the groundwork for a greater understanding of the species through further mapping of tissue- and stage-specific miRNAs.

The domestic pig is an important species from various standpoints. First, it is a major protein source in the human diet worldwide. Additionally, its anatomy, physiology, and genome size are very similar to the human species, and there has been increasing molecular genetic evidence showing the comparability of human and pig, making it a suitable model system for human biology. Pigs are now model animals for biomedical research of cardiovascular, immunological, cancer, diabetes, and a range of other diseases. Finally, the pig has become an important source of organs and tissue for transplantation into humans.

Science Technology and Innovation : NASA Vehicles Move Faster, Perform Better Thanks to Houston-based TRACLabs Technology
on 2010/8/16 22:30:00 (85 reads)
Science Technology and Innovation

(Reriani Communications) --- TRACLabs scientists and technology are playing a key role in two NASA robotic field tests being conducted early this fall. In September, NASA's "Desert Research and Technologies Studies" group (a.k.a., Desert RATS) will make its 13th trip to the Arizona desert for field tests on and around Black Point Lava Flow, just north of Flagstaff. TRACLabs scientists will join the Desert RATS to test new technology that significantly speeds a robotic vehicle's ability to send data and receive commands.

"One of the biggest challenges facing a remote robot operator is the time-delay between the Earth and the Moon or Mars," explains Dr. Rob Burridge, senior scientist at TRACLabs. "Our software reduces both the time the robot spends waiting for the operator to send a new command and the time the operator spends waiting to see results of previous commands." The Desert RATS team is made up of engineers, astronauts and scientists led by NASA to conduct research and demonstrate enhanced methods to operate missions to the moon, Mars and more. TRACLabs technology runs on-board the Space Exploration Vehicles, commonly known as rovers, and at the remote operations center at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Science Technology and Innovation : US Leadership Needed in Global Fight Against Oil Addiction - Natural Gas Vehicles Most Powerful Tool Available
on 2010/8/13 17:00:00 (67 reads)
Science Technology and Innovation

(Reriani Communications) --- The United States has all it needs to win the battle against oil addiction on home ground and help lead the rest of the world out of the same addiction. That’s the message of NGV Global – the International Association for Natural Gas Vehicles – at an industry summit in Boston, Massachusetts today.

NGV Global Executive Director, Brett Jarman, who is in Boston speaking at the Summit, says the US has the most at stake but is also in the position of most power when it comes to addressing the economic and environmental impacts of dependence on oil for transportation. “Your country has the highest per capita energy consumption in the world, with only 5% of the world’s population but accounting for 20% of the world’s oil consumption,” he said. “Replacing oil use in transport with natural gas on a large scale in the US will have resounding effects around the world including immediate reductions in greenhouse emissions and addressing the economic instability of relying on crude oil, a fuel which so few countries have in surplus.”

Science Technology and Innovation : Solar Wafer Cleaner Cleaning Machine by Durasonic.com
on 2010/8/7 10:00:00 (62 reads)
Science Technology and Innovation

(Reriani Communications) --- The main objective is to remove contaminants from the surface of the wafer and to control the growth of chemical on the surface of the wafer. Modern electronic integration is impossible without the technology unless the slope and pollution control have been developed, and a greater reduction in the level of contamination of Solar Wafer Cleaner needed to reduce the dimensions of IC manufacturing. Wafer cleaning process very frequently appears in the manufacture of IC and is one of the very important segments in the semiconductor equipment business and apparently will remain so for some time. Every time depending on the size of devices shrinks and the new tools and materials into the manufacturing process, cleaning becomes more complicated.

Most cleaning techniques can be divided into two parts: dry and wet technique. Liquid wafer cleaning technique is commonly referred to as wet wafer cleaning. They are based on a combination of acids, solvents and water to scrub, spray, dissolve and etch the contaminants on the surface of the wafer. Dry wafer cleaning process use chemical gas phase, and is based on the chemical reactions necessary for cleaning wafers and other techniques such as aerosols, ozonated and laser chemistries. In general, dry wafer cleaning technology uses less hazardous and wet chemicals to the environment, but generally not performed as well as wet technique, primarily to remove particles. Generally used wet wafer cleaning technology will remain the dominant global power for superior wafer cleaning. Alternative processes that either replace or reduce the use of chemicals are being investigated because of the current challenges in the removal of sub-micron particles, and environmental impact. Dry wafer cleaning technique will not replace cleaning with water, but rather complement them and will be used is the wet wafer cleaning technique are inappropriate and impractical.

Science Technology and Innovation

(Reriani Communications) --- MedVacation announced today the launch of a new In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) service that allows couples considering donor egg IVF cycles to use overseas donors while having embryo transfers performed in their local fertility clinics.

“We are extremely excited to offer this important fertility service to our busy American clients who want to expand their families through affordable donor egg IVF cycles from our reputable clinics abroad,” announced MedVacation’s CEO Taras Kuzin. Unlike Europeans, Americans do not typically have 28 days of vacation per year, explained Kuzin. Although some patients may reduce the number of days spent abroad by way of initial ovulation stimulation by a local OBGYN doctor, a typical IVF protocol would require a 17-day stay abroad. “The length of the required stay has been one of the biggest impediments for Americans who don’t have long vacations,” added Kuzin.
