Tourism, Transportation & Travel : Birmingham International Poised to Become Gateway to London
on 2010/9/6 18:00:00 (24 reads)
Tourism, Transportation & Travel

(Reriani Communications) --- Birmingham International Airport chiefs claim that the airport is poised to become “the solution” to London’s capacity problem, after the British government put future expansion of Heathrow and Gatwick on hold. Further investment and planned transport links will see the airport become the number one airport for Aussies looking for cheap flights to London in 2026, according to industry analysts.

“While the planned high-speed rail line will cut the journey between Birmingham International and the centre of London to 38 minutes, passengers will have to wait until 2026 to take advantage of the link,” says Darin Walters, MD of online travel experts Jetabroad. “However, in the interim Virgin Trains are working on reducing the journey into London to 50 minutes, which would put it nearly on par with travel times from Stansted.”

Tourism, Transportation & Travel : 1.8 Million UK Holidaymakers Take Advantage of August Bank Holiday Deals
on 2010/9/6 16:00:00 (23 reads)
Tourism, Transportation & Travel

(Reriani Communications) --- The British Travel Association has revealed statistics on the number of people to have travelled abroad over the August Bank Holiday weekend, with 1.8 million British holidaymakers departing the country, 420,000 from Heathrow alone. Despite the recent collapse of several cut-rate travel firms, numbers remain stable on last year as holidaymakers are still taking advantage of the relative abundance of cheap holidays across the market, with many suppliers cutting prices in reaction to competition from destinations outside the Eurozone.

“Trends haven’t changed much since this time last year, with holidays in Greece, Spain and Turkey remaining the most popular destinations for British travellers,” says Thomas Kempster, Director of holiday experts Packyourbags.com. “While the average price of these destinations has risen based on last year’s numbers, this is due in part to increased growth in the all-inclusive and cruise sectors, in addition to a slight increase in average holiday duration.”

Tourism, Transportation & Travel : Soap Opera Drives Increase in Arab Holidaymakers Visiting Turkey
on 2010/9/6 15:00:00 (35 reads)
Tourism, Transportation & Travel

(Reriani Communications) --- Turkey is currently seeing an influx of tourists from its Arab neighbours, which industry insiders are putting down to the continuing popularity of imported Turkish soap operas such as Noor, also helped by both Ankara’s recent decision to relax visa requirements for some countries, and the ready availability of cheap Turkey holidays across the Arab market. Compared to 2009, Turkey has seen a 33 percent increase in tourists from Arab countries, with 105,000 visitors arriving in May.

Though the series has since ended, with the finale attracting 85 million viewers across the Arab world, its effects are still being felt across the Turkish tourism industry, with large numbers of visitors avoiding the traditional sights of Istanbul in favour for locations featured in the shows.

Tourism, Transportation & Travel : Visa Data Shows 20 Percent Increase in Spending from Tourists Visiting US During First Half of 2010
on 2010/8/31 21:00:00 (53 reads)
Tourism, Transportation & Travel

(Reriani Communications) --- A new report Tourism Outlook: USA from Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) indicates the tourism industry has begun to rebound during the first six months of 2010. From Jan. 1 - June 30, 2010, spending by international tourists to the U.S. on their Visa-branded payment cards was up 20 percent over 2009 levels. At the same time, American tourists are spending at higher levels when traveling internationally: spending by U.S. travelers abroad on Visa cards was up 9.3 percent in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the same period in 2009. "The United States continues to be a major source market for international tourism and a popular destination for travelers around the globe. The growth in inbound spending in early 2010, particularly from source markets such as China and Brazil, reinforces how Asia-Pacific and South America are seemingly the first to emerge and rebound from the challenging environment that defined 2008 and 2009," said Bill Sheedy, president, North America, Visa Inc. In 2009, spending by international visitors declined 12 percent from $32.9 billion in 2008 to $28.9 billion based on a challenging socio-economic environment.

Tourism Impact: The Gulf Region Oil Spill
Visa is actively working with tourism operators and organizations across the Gulf Coast region to provide spending data and insights that will help them evaluate the short-and long-term impacts of the recent oil spill crisis.

Tourism, Transportation & Travel : 59% of Travellers Want Family-Only Section on Flights Reveals Skyscanner
on 2010/8/25 19:00:00 (38 reads)
Tourism, Transportation & Travel

(Reriani Communications) --- Following the recent uproar over a woman who claimed a baby’s screaming made her ears bleed on a Qantas Airlines flight, a poll carried out by cheap flights comparison site, Skyscanner, has revealed that 59% of travellers would like a ‘families only’ section onboard flights. Non-parents particularly liked the idea, with 68% voting in favor, however, less than a third of parents surveyed were in agreement.

Over 2,000 people voted in the Skyscanner poll; just 8% of child-free respondents thought people should be entitled to sit where they like, while almost 70% ‘wanted to sit as far away as possible from children.’ Almost a quarter of non-parents went one step further saying that they would prefer flights that were free from children altogether. Of those who were parents themselves, 45% said they didn’t want a families-only section because they didn’t want to sit next to ‘other people’s horrors’ while 24% disagreed with the idea because they felt that people should be able to ‘sit where they liked.’ Just 31% of parents were in favor of the allocated section.

Tourism, Transportation & Travel : Vin-Air Wine Travel Cases Help Wine Lovers Fly with Wine
on 2010/8/22 23:00:00 (43 reads)
Tourism, Transportation & Travel

(Reriani Communications) --- Current Transportation Security Administration airline regulations require most carry-on liquids, aerosols, and gels to be bottled in 3.4 ounce (100ml) containers or smaller. Exceptions to this rule are made for some medications, infant formula, and breast milk. In addition, liquids, including alcohol purchased after the security checkpoint are allowed on planes. These restrictions leave most wine lovers with little choice but to check in their wine as luggage, but even doing that is not without restriction. Passengers may check in up to five liters of alcohol with a content between 24% and 70%. Basically, each passenger is allowed to check in up to six 750ml bottles of wine.

Of course, just because TSA regulations allow a passenger to have bottles of wine in a suitcase of clothes, does not mean it’s desirable to do so. Airline baggage handling is often a rough and tumble process and mixing wine with clothes can result in an unexpected outcome. A broken wine bottle in checked luggage is enough to spoil at least the first day of anyone’s vacation.
