Philanthropy and Volunteer : National Radio Personality Trey Morgan Attempts to Work for 30 Charities During September for a Project Entitled “30 Deeds, 30 Days”
|
| on 2010/8/16 21:00:00 (79 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- On September 1st, 2010, New York City based radio personality, Trey Morgan will embark on a journey designed to shock him into a more philanthropic way of life. Over the course of 30 days, Morgan will attempt to commit his time to 30 different charitable organizations, 1 for each day of September, all while holding down his ‘day job’ and making it home for dinner with his wife. This non-profit crusade is called, “30 Deeds, 30 Days”, a term Morgan coined for it’s obvious simplicity.
Trey Morgan, a well known radio personality for New York City’s Z100, came up with the idea for 30 Deeds, 30 Days while feeling much the same as many around the country. Morgan wanted to find a way to give back and get involved, but didn’t know how to go about it, who to get involved with, or where he would find the time in his day-to-day life. Not one to sit back idly, Morgan decided to dive in head first, and began to formulate his plan.

Philanthropy and Volunteer : Protocol Employees Build Hope Through Habitat for Humanity Outreach
|
| on 2010/7/30 9:30:00 (76 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- Protocol Global Solutions today announced the outstanding results of its second quarter 2010 philanthropic initiative that placed over 350 of their employees in Habitat for Humanity projects throughout the country. "With over one third of our nation's population--over 95 million people--experiencing a housing problem, it just made sense for Protocol to partner with Habitat for Humanity," said Chris Haerich, Vice President of Compliance and head of Protocol's philanthropic efforts. "Everyone enjoyed being able to give back to their communities in such a tangible way. In fact, as a result of the familiarity that most of our employees felt with Habitat, the number of volunteers increased substantially over our Q1 project."
In Protocol's six North American locations, employee volunteers--including executive management--worked nearly 500 hours building homes, privacy fences, landscaping newly built homes, and working in Habitat for Humanity stores tracking inventory, cleaning and more. "Every Habitat we worked with was thankful for our help and dedication, and they all asked us to help again in the future," said Haerich.

Philanthropy and Volunteer : Lucky Number Thirteen; Asha for Education Announces Edition 13 of Its Global Work an Hour Campaign
|
| on 2010/7/23 9:00:00 (86 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- Asha for Education announces edition 13 of its global work an hour campaign. Asha for Education (AfE), a volunteer driven non-profit organization seeking to foster education among underprivileged children across India, returns on July 15 with the Work an Hour campaign for the 13th successive year. Culminating symbolically on September 15, celebrated as Teachers’ Day in India, WAH involves the simple idea of participants donating one hour’s worth of their earnings. Funds generated will be allocated to various projects which require aid for various needs ranging from infrastructure to teacher's salaries and mid-day meals to workshop with some of fixed nature and higher than what one AfE chapter alone can raise. While last year more than 7000 children in 70 schools benefited directly from $156,000 raised from over 900 donors, this year AfE strives to touch the $200,000 mark.
Thirteen, considered an unlucky number in most western cultural beliefs is AfE’s ally in this year’s efforts. Regardless of the numerology prevailing, for millions of children in India’s urban and rural centers, education and therefore a stable future is a far fetched dream. Themed ‘Impetus to Succeed’, this year’s campaign showcases thirteen projects across India for donors. AfE volunteers say, “Success to each student supported might mean different things, such as a steady job, not being exploited, affording a living in a city with inflation etc. At AfE, the belief is that education empowers them to overcome obstacles and succeed in the face of adversity.”

Philanthropy and Volunteer : National Trust Reports Puffin Sat-Nav Helping to Solve Mystery of Feeding Flight Paths
|
| on 2010/7/11 6:00:00 (71 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- Cutting-edge technology is shedding light on the daily flight paths of puffins around the National Trust's Farne Islands, off the Northumberland coast, and providing clues that could be vital to the seabirds' survival. Over the last year, scientists have used the technology to build up a picture of where the puffins are heading for when they take off from the Farne Islands each day. This shows that they are making a beeline for feeding 'hotspots' 20 miles out to sea. Along with their established and protected breeding grounds on the islands, these hotspots may be important areas to conserve in order to ensure the puffin's future survival.
Since last year, after a dramatic 30 per cent decline in puffin numbers had been recorded in 2008*, a team of researchers from Newcastle University have been working with National Trust wardens on Brownsman Island and deploying a whole raft of puffin technology to track their every move. David Steel, National Trust Head Warden on the Farne Islands, said: "This new research and our ongoing puffin count are finally piecing together a complete picture of puffin behaviour.

Philanthropy and Volunteer : Troy CROP Hunger Walk Surpasses $375,000 in Total Funds for Local and World Hunger with Help of Wellco President
|
| on 2010/7/4 8:30:00 (106 reads) |
(Reriani Communications) --- Ordinarily, charitable activates can expect declining giving due to economic challenges. But by the time the hunger fighting advocates walked a 4-mile trek from Community Fellowship United Methodist through the neighborhoods of Troy, they had passed a significant milestone. Two hundred fifty eight hunger fighting advocates representing 17 organizations walked to raise $19,023 for a total of nearly $385,000 in their 20-year span. Through the wonderful and faithful leadership of our CROP Hunger Walk Committee who represent churches, organizations and local food ministries, many hungry and hurting people in Detroit Metropolitan Area and throughout the world have received food, water and shelter. “The need for hunger relief is greater than ever, even in your own backyard,” says walk coordinator Scott Foster. Working with the faith community, businesses and local residents to organize the annual event, is more than just part-time volunteer work for the 42-year-old President of Wellco.
"I’ve been poor but never hungry," he says. "Most people have sympathy for those who need help meeting basic needs like food, water and shelter they just need a personal invitation to get involved and engaged." In addition to aiding those in need in other countries, the Troy Area CROP Hunger Walk, shares 25% of funds raised with four local ministries: the Metropolitan Christian Council meals for Shut-Ins program, Troy People Concern, Baldwin Church & Center in Pontiac, and the Cass Community Social Services Center in Detroit. Global ministries that will receive help from the CROP Hunger Walk include our friends in Haiti, following the devastating earthquake this past January, children in Darfur, church partners in Chile, and recent flood victims in the Midwest and Northeast US. CWS/CROP has a presence in each of these communities through our indigenous partners and local churches. There are nearly 150 CROP Hunger Walks in the state of Michigan, with more than $2,000,000 raised through the annual events each year.

Mr. Rhodes understands these goals are best achieved through well equipped educational facilities which provide their students with choices, opportunities and inspiration. For this reason, one of the primary missions of the Foundation is to provide high schools located in financially depressed areas with resources, equipment, programs and activities that will assist with the academic, athletic and social development of their students.
