Sports : Rafael Nadal believes he is in better shape for the start of the 2010
|
| on 2009/12/30 8:40:00 (1004 reads) |
(Reriani Communications)--- World number two Rafael Nadal believes he is in better shape for the start of the 2010 tennis season than he was this year despite having a relatively short time to prepare.
Rafael Nadal was 19 years and two days old when he won the 2005 French Open in his very first appearance at the event. A left-hander with a booming forehand, Nadal had been known as a clay-court specialist since playing his first pro tournaments in 2001. His aggressive style, flowing hair and muscular build have made him a consistent favorite with female fans as well. He won his first singles title in 2004, and had a breakout season in 2005, winning at Monte Carlo, Rome, Barcelona and Stuttgart as well as at Roland Garros. He won the French Open again in 2006, 2007 and 2008, defeating Roger Federer in the final each time. In 2008 he broke through at Wimbledon, beating Federer to win the men's singles title there. No longer just a master of clay, he beat Federer at the hard-court Australian Open in 2009, confirming his #1 ranking in the world.

Sports : Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher returns to Formula One racing with Mercedes GP
|
| on 2009/12/23 8:48:05 (225 reads) |
(Reriani Communications)--- Having retired in 2006, Schumacher, who turns 41 on January 3, will reportedly be paid $US9.9 million ($11.3 million) to be on the grid when the new season starts with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 14.
“After a three-year break, I have all the energy again that I was lacking,” Schumacher told a teleconference with reporters after signing the contract late Tuesday.
Schumacher was born in Hürth Hermülheim, to Rolf Schumacher, a bricklayer, and his wife Elisabeth. When Schumacher was four, his father modified his pedal kart by adding a small motorcycle engine. When Schumacher crashed it into a lamp post in Kerpen, his parents took him to the karting track at Kerpen-Horrem, where he became the youngest member of the karting club. His father soon built him a kart from discarded parts and at the age of six Schumacher won his first club championship. To support his son's racing, Rolf Schumacher took on a second job renting and repairing karts, while his wife worked at the track's canteen.
Nevertheless, when Schumacher needed a new engine costing 800 DM (600 €), his parents were unable to afford it; Michael was able to continue racing by support from local businessmen.[12]
